Abstrakt

Theodore Roszak is one of the best known researchers of countercultural movements of the 1960s. This article assumes that the researcher, not being a doctriner or trendsetter, tried to organize and describe the chaos of the existing reality in a scientific way so as to prove, in a second step, the thesis that the vision he depicts is a political program worth promoting. None of the American author’s books have been translated into Polish. This article would like to bring the ideas of the most important Roszak’s work published in 1969. The leitmotiv of the article is Roszak’s vision of “beautiful politics”. By means of the comparative method, the content of the author’s most important work is compared with other statements, including especially his latest publication from 2009. The use of the comparative method in the biographical aspect leads to surprising conclusions in relation to the previously developed argument.
