Abstract

Demographic forecasts clearly indicate the ongoing aging process of society. The structure of society has changed significantly. The senior population has an increasing share of the Total population and is therefore beginning to play an increasingly important role in society. The aging process of a significant part of society has recently increased interest in this import ant problem. Given this demographic situation, it becomes necessary to focus social policy not only on extending life, but also on taking actions to improve the quality of life of elderly people. The article will present the general demography of Poland with an emphasis on the number of people of post‑ working age, then the general assumptions of the deinstitutionalization process will be presented, and later in the article it will show the assumptions of various European and government programs regarding activities for the elderly. The analysis of programs addressed to seniors will focus on their implementation in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in rural communes.
