Abstract

In the article, the authors reviewed and analysed the positions towards globalisation represented by Christian circles on the basis of the content of various publications. They noticed an interesting process consisting in the infiltration of knowledge from the area of broadly understood social sciences into Christian circles and the accompanying combination of descriptive or quasi-theoretical threads with normative judgements. On the other hand, however, the multifaceted reflection on globalisation is accompanied in religious circles by a lack of in-depth consideration of the social and moral aspects of globalisation processes. Christian reflection therefore gives the impression of both substantive breadth and superficiality and secondary description. Visions of globalisation in ecclesiastical circles obviously also have their own confessional specificity. Catholics displaying a multi-confessional diversity adopt both an open-minded attitude, recognising the opportunities and challenges of globalisation, as well as noting a number of risks, particularly relating to issues of faith and religious practice. Protestants show both a capacity to intellectually consider the processes in question and a fundamentalist attitude of rejection of modernity. Orthodoxy, on the other hand, exposes the processes of internationalisation as historically embedded and having a long tradition in Christian theological reflection.
